Murphy and Betty Baxter funded The Baxter Trust. Murphy was a successful independent oil and natural gas producer, and Betty was the backbone of his success. Murphy Baxter was born in 1923 and died in 1990. He is remembered as being larger than life, a man of great compassion who always rooted for the underdog.
Established in 1986, The Baxter Trust provides financial support to smaller, newer non-profit groups who lack major fundraising capabilities but are committed to helping people from underserved communities improve themselves and their station in life.
Trustees prioritize organizations that focus on basic human needs, education, and healthcare.
Preference is given to projects that help improve the quality of people’s lives on a long-term basis, both directly and indirectly.
The Baxter Trust accepts grant applications by invitation only.
